What does that CNY price come to, and how far is it from the sample rate?
Convert with an editable rate and see the deviation from the rate implied by this site’s sample.
Parameters last checked · defaults are templates, not quotes.
Catalogue pages often show a converted figure next to the original price. That figure moves with the rate the catalogue happens to use, which is not necessarily the rate your payment method applies.
This desk converts with a rate you can edit and shows how far your rate sits from the sample-implied rate, so a surprise on the statement becomes explainable.
Switching the target currency changes the symbol and nothing else. The rate field is denominated in CNY per unit of whichever currency is selected, so a dollar rate left in place while the label reads euro gives a confident, wrong figure. The check takes a second: after any change of target, read the inverse line beneath the result — one unit equals so many CNY — and confirm it matches the currency in mind. The conversion follows the rate field, never the currency selector. A rate carried over from a previous currency is the most frequent error here.
The deviation row compares rates, not prices. It is computed as your rate minus the sample-implied rate, divided by the sample rate, so a positive figure means more CNY per unit was entered and every converted value will be smaller, not larger. The sample rate is an average implied by 218 catalogue listings on a single date, marked not verified, and it carries no card spread. Read a deviation beyond a few per cent as evidence of a rounded catalogue rate rather than of a mispriced listing.

A deviation beyond about 2% usually means the catalogue is using a rounded rate rather than that the listing is mispriced.
How to read the result
- The sample-implied rate comes from this site’s own price snapshot, not from a bank or a payment provider.
- A deviation under about 2% is ordinary; beyond that, check whether the catalogue is using a rounded rate.
- The rate you finally pay includes your card issuer’s spread, which no public rate captures.
- Change the rate before drawing conclusions — a stale rate is the most common source of wrong totals.
- The target selector relabels the result and nothing more; the rate stays as typed, so re-enter it for each currency and confirm the inverse line before reading the conversion.
Formula, source and caveat
converted = amount ÷ rate (CNY per unit of target currency)
- Source
- Arithmetic.
- Caveat
- Direction matters: CNY per USD, not USD per CNY.
deviation = (your rate − sample rate) ÷ sample rate × 100
- Source
- This site’s price snapshot.
- Caveat
- The snapshot is a catalogue average, not a market rate.
Questions this tool raises
- Why does the catalogue show a different figure?
- Catalogue conversions are often rounded, and some lag the current rate by days.
- Should I pay in CNY or in my own currency?
- Compare the two totals on your statement. If your issuer adds a spread, paying in the seller’s currency can be cheaper.
- Is the sample rate a recommended rate?
- No. It is the average implied by 218 catalogue prices on one date, used here as a reference point only.
